I'm Gaming Jay: Youtube gamer, let's player, retrogaming fan, and determined optimist... Join me in this series while I try out EVERY game in the book 1001 VIDEO GAMES YOU MUST PLAY BEFORE YOU DIE, before I die. The game review for each game will focus on the question of whether you MUST play this game before you die. But to be honest, the game reviews are just for fun, this series is more about the YouTube gamer journey. Let's try out those classic retro games we grew up with, have fond memories of, or heard of but never got a chance to try! And with that said, the game review for today is...

Jay's Thoughts
This is one of the best Playstation games of all time. And I'm not exaggerating. Metal Gear Solid was the game that introduced me to the idea of stealth survival. In Metal Gear Solid you play as Solid Snake, a secret operative who infiltrates and island that's been taken over by a terrorist organization. However, you don't go running through the island, gunning everyone down like Doom or Wolfenstein 3D, instead, you are extremely vulnerable. One or two soldiers can take you out in open combat if you're not careful. So rather than just gunning your way through the island, you have to sneak around, use cover, use distractions, ambush enemies, and plan your attacks. It's just brilliant.
And if the gameplay wasn't enough, Metal Gear Solid features a story that could rival most Hollywood blockbusters. The story is full of interesting characters and some surprising twists. Seriously, almost every boss you beat in this game gives a heartfelt soliloquy when they die, and that may sound cheesy, but when you hear Sniper Wolf talk about her childhood as she lay there dying, tell me you don't get a tear in your eye. Oh, and let's not forget Psycho Mantis, one of the only video game bosses I know that breaks the fourth wall (which is both shocking and SO creative).
To this day, Metal Gear Solid holds up, both in terms of gameplay and story. If you've never played this game, get it today. You won't be disappointed!
➙ Must You Play It?
Metal Gear Solid is one of the best Playstation games of all time. It stands as a shining example of a stealth-genre shooter but also incorporates one of the best stories of all time into a game. If you haven't played it before, you must try it.
