Snake breaches the perimeter of the main building and starts looking for first of two hostages, DARPA chief named Donald Anderson held somewhere in the building. Upon locating him, Snake learns that him and second hostage, ArmsTech president Kenneth Baker were present in Shadow Moses due to both overseeing testing of secret black project developed on the island, namely new incarnation of Metal Gear superweapon codenamed REX which could be utilized by FOXHOUND to launch nuclear missle if they could activate it using two codes kept by Anderson and Baker respectively with Anderson revealing that he was coerced into telling his code to FOXHOUND. Shortly afterwards, Anderson suffers fatal heart attack of an unknown cause with Snake ending up assisting female prisoner escape after two are attacked by the group of soldiers before she runs off with Snake being instructed to descend deeper into the building and find Baker before he reveals his code as well...
