Metal Gear Solid Walkthrough Part 11: Underground Base
0Snake makes it to the underground hangar within maintenance base which houses Metal Gear REX, eventually being contacted by Otacon who hacked into Kenneth Baker's files, discovering the trick behind the PAL key; Rather than there being three separate card keys, PAL system consists of one card key made from shape-changing alloy that reacts to either extreme cold or extreme heat. With Liquid somehow still alive after confrontation atop communication tower and final preparations for launch of nuclear weapon via REX in order to destroy US' reputation in the world complete, Snake heads out to abort the launch. However, while doing this, he is confronted with several bizzare revelations; Firstly, Meryl is still alive despite Ocelot's earlier claims, secondly, cause of deaths of both Decoy Octopus and Kenneth Baker was an experimental viral weapon called FoxDie designed to target certain individuals via their genetic structure and kill them via induced heart attack with entire FOXHOUND unit allegedly being targeted and Snake being infected as a vector meant to unknowingly deliver the virus to its targets over the course of the mission, causing Liquid to add FoxDie vaccine to his list of demands. Thirdly, Naomi Hunter is revealed to be adopted sister of Frank Jeager AKA Gray Fox, ex-FOXHOUND member turned Big Boss' loyalist allegedly killed by Snake six years prior who was eventually recovered and turned into Cyborg Ninja before breaking out and killing a doctor tasked with experimenting on him with Naomi covering the murder up as a lab accident and helping Fox to hide for two years prior to Shadow Moses takeover. Naomi also reveals that she took part in FoxDie's development, infecting Snake with it as revenge for his role in Big Boss' death and Gray Fox's transformation into Cyborg Ninja despite usage of the virus actually being authorized by someone else whose name Naomi is unable to reveal before she is arrested and officially removed from operation by Campbell. And finally, upon inserting all PAL codes, Snake learns that he unknowingly activated REX's launch mechanism instead of shutting it down, having actually been tricked by Liquid who posed as Master Miller while real Miller was murdered in his own home three days prior, reason for deception being FOXHOUND's inability to learn DARPA chief's code due to his mental insulation and his accidental murder by Ocelot while he tried to torture the code out of him. Upon telling him all of this, Liquid floods the hangar's control room with nerve gas in an attempt to kill Snake as he has outlived his usefulness...
