Yep, right after my bouts against JesseTheImmortal on BlazBlue, I decided to play some online matches against Jwvermillion on Meteos Wars. Seems that the surge of popularity for this game has died down--after looking at the online records, the matches we played during our session were the only ones played during the last seven days! Hmm. I'm going to need to look into this further.

Match #1
My Planet: Mekks

Opponent's Planet: Freaze
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-4ffh6J9xo
Weird. How come whenever Freaze is involved in an online match I play, it's most often against another 7-column planet?
Now, it must seem strange to consider Mekks in an online match where the lag is going to be pretty heavy. After all, scores are what matters in these matches. Screen Clears give you a big fat bonus of 10,000 points, but Mekks is incapable of Screen Clears. Well, almost incapable. So what could you possibly do to keep up? The answer lies in the fact that all ignitions are the same power, no matter what. In the short term, this doesn't get you that stellar of results. In the long term, it could prove to be a way bigger source of points that makes Screen Clears measly by comparison. That's because chains on planets like Mekks can become infinitely long. Each time you chain an ignition, the score multiplier goes up by 1. Chain enough, and you'll be getting 10,000 points at a rate faster than you'd perform a Screen Clear, even on a narrow field like Mekks'. With lag, you're given ample time to find more Meteos to line up. Thus, Mekks is still viable under lag (unlike, say, Hevendor), just with a different strategy than the normal blanket of garbage blocks.

I need to try that strategy with Gigagush later.

Match #2
My Planet: Cavious
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdutCfmC9tM
Opponent's Planet: Gravitas
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20z49kTKYhI
Jwvermillion must have been watching my videos with Gravitas, as it seems he's not only learned that trick to getting Screen Clears, he's certainly practiced with it. He can pull off one after the other. The problem here is that Gravitas, under normal circumstances, won't be getting more than a chain of 2 at a time whereas Cavious's more conventional ignition scheme gets me higher multipliers. So a Screen Clear plus the prior ignitions on Gravitas is worth around 12,000 points whereas one on Cavious is worth about 21,000. This doesn't mean that Gravitas is disadvantaged, however, as Gravitas can do them at a faster rate.
If I were to give some advice to him, I'd tell him not to hover the cursor over the column where he wants a block. I saw him doing that with the second column from the right towards the beginning of this round. The game will know you're looking for a match and will deny you that type of Meteos. Notice how the column doesn't get ANY Meteos blocks but all of the other columns do. This allowed my to set up a Screen Clear on Cavious and get an early lead, and because of the garbage block attack, it makes recovering on Gravitas that much harder. Gravitas depends on the fact that it only has four colors, one of which is scarce.

(The next round is in the next video)
