Here's an excellent hack made possible by the combined efforts of EJRT and Quantam to bring full color to Metroid II: Return of Samus for Game Boy! This hack isn't necessarily called "DX", but rather called the "EJRTQ Colorization" hack for those wishing to search.

This hack adds full Game Boy Color functionality to Metroid II and is playable even on real hardware. The color choices are carefully made to ensure they are in line with the game's atmosphere, but the colors allow much easier differentiation between areas in the game.
This video shows a portion of the first sections of the game.
