After collecting the Thermal Visor at Glacier One, I backtracked to the Main Courtyard prior to Glacier One's entrance where there was a door without power. I used the Wave Beam and the Thermal Visor and I arrived at the Quarantize Zone, where the Project Titan experiment was a huge success.

The main experiment of Project Titan is Thardus, an animated sentient stone creature charged with Phazon energy using magnetism. Beating him is really easy. The Lock-On is useless on the Combat Visor, since Phazon energy makes it impossible to enable it. You need to switch to your Thermal Visor to locate a high heat signature on his body, then shoot at it until the Phazon ore makes your Thermal Visor overload. Change to the Combat Visor and proceed to fire on the exposed weakspots until he is down.

Beating Thardus rewards the player with the Spider Ball, which allows Samus to climb over magnetic rails.
