METROID PRIME VR is one of the BEST Dolphin VR experiences! // Quest 2 Airlink Gameplay
653Metroid VR would be the perfect starting point for Nintendo to jump into true virtual reality games, a full motion controlled, 6DOF Metroid VR game would be phenomenal and I don't think many would argue with that. A group of fans actually started work on an unofficial Metroid Prime VR game built from the ground up to support motion controls but sadly due to the legalities (and scary Nintendo lawyers) this never made its way into consumers hands and was only showcased at a few tech expos as a demo. Which leaves us with one option, Dolphin VR, the abandoned but extremely impressive piece of VR emulation software that allows us to experience Gamecube & Wii games in VR with 3D visuals, headtracking and a plethora of cheats & hacks to enhance the experience. Now Mario Kart Wii VR might be the best game to play with Dolphin VR but coming in a very close second place is Metroid Prime VR... a game that still looks stunning to this day thanks to some incredible world building and artistic design.
Metroid Prime VR with Dolphin VR breathes new life into a twenty year old game (dear lord I'm old), the crisp 3D visuals don't ghost or blur and if you're willing to tinker to get the performance just right you can increase the resolution far beyound the native Gamecube settings. In this video I take a brief look at Metroid Prime VR running at 3X the native resolution and showcase just how playable it is on the emulator. Do keep in mind though the initial section of the game where Samus arrives at the Space Pirate ship always seems to run poorly, so progress past this initial few moments before adjusting settings to find your own personal sweetspot.
Come on Nintendo, it's time to give us some of your incredible I.Ps in glorious VR, I would chuck so much money at Mario Kart, F Zero, Metroid & Pokemon Snap if I could have them all playable with motion controls and full 6DOF. This Metroid Prime VR gameplay was captured on my Oculus Quest 2 via Quest 2 airlink, the game and the Dolphin Emulator both need a PC to run and can't be launched natively from the Quest 2 headset.
