Metroid: Zero Mission (any% under 2 hours) Walkthrough | No Commentary
This video is currently the biggest file I've uploaded to this site - 15 GBs. Took 6 hours to render, too. First time I ever uploaded a 1080p60 video of this length. Literally takes me less time to finish the game 4 times. If you must know, my fastest time was around 1:12:00.
This walkthrough aims to beat the game with less than 100% while getting an in-game time under 2 hours, which gives you the Zero Suit ending screen. I've seen walkthroughs that show case 100% and even 100% in under 2 hours, but not something as simple as just beating the game fast. There are speedruns, yes, but those aren't the best for casual players as they utilize advanced techniques often and use trickier routes (like going Ridley first). I wanted to keep things simple. If you follow this video, you will get an in-game time less than 2 hours with quite a bit of wiggle room. Another reason why I uploaded this was that I really like the game and wanted it represented on my channel.
Metroid: Zero Mission was released on the Gameboy Advance (GBA) in 2005 by Nintendo. If you are wanting to give the series a try yourself, I HIGHLY recommend you start with this one. It's a remake of the very first Metroid, released on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1987. Aside from the prettier pixel graphics, the map has been overhauled to be easier to navigate, a map system was added, and the game design was a nice hybrid of Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. The game was open enough to get upgrades out of order and you could go Ridley first (and it was intentional this time), and they've added Chozo statues that can point you where to go, but not how to get there. And if you don't like that, aside from the first two, you can just ignore them. Bosses are a lot more engaging than Super, and can be more accessible than Fusion's. Some upgrades are really fun to nab. Game is also pretty forgiving with all the health replenishments and save points, which is understandable as this was a handheld title. And with all the various ending screens that can be shown with different requirements, I feel that the devs knew exactly what players wanted out of a Metroid title and were able to execute it well. It's not a perfect game, you can still miss a hint and get lost in a small area and I think power bombs were introduced way too late (although backtracking back to Zebes to find the rest for 100% is actually fun), but these phase out of you mind after awhile.
If you want to give this game a try officially, I have some bad news: the game is only been rereleased on the Wii U Virtual Console, which is going to get shut down at some point. I'm sure it will be made available on the Switch Online service, but who knows how long it will take Nintendo to do that? And a physical copy of Zero Mission goes for around $80 or more - not easy on the wallet.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the video. Give Metroid Prime Remastered a try if you haven't already!
