Fighting Extreme Behemoth Day 1 from the PoV of a Lance Tank! Details about the fight and team composition below (Equipment setup at 22:37).

Note: This run is a bit sloppy as it was pretty much my second time trying it. Smoother run with friends can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aenV3Kb14v0&t=2s

Lance Tank (me), Gunlance (who could tank if necessary), Hunting Horn (Buffs + Wide Range and Mushroomancer, our healer), Heavy Bow Gun (Uses Zorah HBG for Clust Shots, Paralysis and Sleep).

I had a sloppy start-up, but after the first minute or so the fight got into gear. Mind's Eye/ESP is very important, not just for lance but really most melee weapons. Gear for survivability, especially if you're tanking. Your Attack+7 is not going to be the difference between a win or a lose.

Communication and a healer is important. Meteors carry Defense Down, and having someone with Hardshell Powders or Wide-Ranged Armor Seeds will save your team. Try to have someone capable of getting aggro ASAP. Behemoth can easily kill your team if he's flailing about randomly. He drops meteors on 3 different targets if unaggro'ed, and only 1 meteor on the aggro'd target if aggrod.

Be wary of comet locations! You notice that I keep a medium distance from the comet, and make it a priority to move away if I get close. Make sure he doesn't directly face a comet, and be far enough that his circular attack won't hit it, but not too far. Tanks should use Charybdis summons as a chance to poke the head and gain aggro. You need about 500 head damage, or 5 Dragon Pod shots, or a mixture of both for aggro. Note that during this run I thought you needed to shoot his head (you do not! Feel free to hit him anywhere with your dragon pods!) so that’s why I was awkwardly shooting. Getting grabbed is instant-aggro, and is a somewhat viable strategy if you really want the aggro, but you'll want your team ready to heal you up, especially while you try to get rid of the bleed that the grab causes.

If you do enough damage in Phase 3, he does not summon a comet or an ecliptic meteor.

Move together on Phase 4 because as you saw he loves to try to close the entrance with tornadoes. My team saved me hard towards the very end while I was burning in a corner on the ground. He dies as soon as his 3rd Phase 4 Ecliptic Meteor ends.

I never used my Temporal Mantle because I've never used one before, so I didn't know what to expect and didn't want to risk it.

For tanking I highly suggest Guard+3 or higher, Guard Up (this is needed for several of his attacks), Stun Resistance 3 (Thunderblight makes it easy for you to be stunned + you're getting combo'ed hard most of the fight, this prevents that), Health Boost 3 (duh), Mind's Eye (Very Important if melee), and a Health Regen augment on your weapon (personally, all my endgame weapons already have this augment. I absolutely love it). Try to use a meal voucher and eat for Felyne Moxie if you can.
