Millennium Soldier: Expendable - Sega Dreamcast gameplay
This is gameplay of "Millennium Soldier: Expendable" played on the Sega Dreamcast, (real hardware, not emulated).
Known in Japan as "Seitai Heiki Expendable" Which translates to English roughly as "Biological Weapon: Expendable", the Japanese name perfectly conveys the status and position of the player character(s) in just those few words. The American title was simply "Expendable".
I can only imagine that the European title of "Millennium Soldier: Expendable" was decided by a marketing executive who believed that attaching the word "millennium" to anything released in 1999 was cool and futuristic. In 1999 it wasn't possible to take more than a few steps without stumbling into something "Millennium".
But I digress. Here I'm playing this game, partnered with my nephew, on a real Dreamcast that's been modified only with a GDEmu, using a rip of an authentic game disc that I own. We're using the official Sega Dreamcast Arcade Stick controllers to control the game. This is the first time that either of us has played the game and we found the arcade stick to be a less than ideal control method for this type of game. The 4-way digital stick only allowed for the player to shoot and move in eight directions and I wonder if the analogue stick on the standard Dreamcast controller would have given up better control.
Nevertheless we persevered until our credits dried up and this recording is the product of that effort. I hope you enjoy it.
