66Mind Walker was developed by Synapse and released in 1986 by Commodore. It was designed and coded by Bill Williams - who was perhaps the Jeff Minter of Amiga games, with a weird and yet wonderful blend of surreal landscapes and music, in this open world adventure.

If you thought Amiga games couldn't get any stranger, this one had me stumped for a long time. Then I discovered a guide on the Lukozer channel, and finally I got to understand this long lost gem. (The Lokozer videos were really good at one point a couple of years ago, but now he's stopped posting them). So I booted this up in NTSC, realising it was made in America, so that I could show the game off at it's best. I basically show as much as Lukozer did in his review.
The voice is rather quiet on this one, so it means if the volume is turned up, it increases the volume of the (rather quiet) music - which isnt so bad that I wanted to render the video again.

Commodore always backed the underdogs. Who could forget Days of Thunder, Back To The Future II, Oscar and Diggers! I had my eyes opened to this game, and I must say I enjoyed the vague RPG element and the unique atmosphere. Control is smooth and rather quick in NTSC, with only minor slowdown when using the lightning attack on a full screen. The procedural generated graphics are strange but also functional, especially for 1986; especially considering I didn't even get my first computer (a C64) until 1988! As 1986 was the first proper year of the Amiga's launch, software houses were struggling to imagine what the machine was capable of. Outside of a few basic titles by Electronic Arts, there was nothing which fired up the imagination like Rescue on Fractalus did with the Atari and Apple 8 bits. Somehow this title got lost in a sea of Atari ST ports, and cheap nasty budget conversions. With a new coat of paint and maybe few Sensible Software weirdnesses going on, I can image PS5 owners might enjoy this in 3D. With so many levels and difficulty settings, this title should be one of those to keep coming back to. Yet unlike Jim Power or Warhead, I don't think there is so much replay value as you might expect. Still, its worth a 7 out of 10, especially for 1986.
