Minecraft 1.11: The Shulker Mover V2: Now with WORKING REDSTONE!
So when we last left off with the Shulker Mover (now V1), the bottom half was working well, but the top was a total write-off. Thanks to Ray's Works latest video, "Shulker Box Item Transport System", I was able to see a critical way to compact the comparator redstone on the bottom, and then I finally figured out a working upper half wiring setup.
Specifically, the changes made were:
* Used a reference chest on the bottom level with a second comparator and subtract mode to reduce the length of redstone for triggering the kicker/dispenser combo.
* Removed the NOT gate on the upper level comparator output so that output will always be on when the chest has contents and off when empty.
* Set up a NOT gate specifically for the hopper lock under the shukler chest up top, to prevent the hopper from eating the shulker when broken
* Added a pulse generator to the output of the upper level comparator. This generator then drives the kicker/dispenser combo with appropriate delays. (The top seems to need a longer delay than the bottom, not sure why.)
* Added a "reset" circuit off the upper level comparator that powers a piston over the comparator itself. It has a long enough delay that when the comparator turns off, the kicker/dispenser combo can handle its duties and place the new shulker box down before the piston retracts. The retraction causes a block update, which then fixes the comparator.
* Unintentionally redesigning it so the top and bottom halves are disabled if no shulkers are ready to load/unload.
Now, all that said, is this really a faster way of doing this? Eh... unfortunately no. The bottleneck isn't in the shulkers, but in the hoppers that make up this system as that limits the loading and unloading speeds. The net result is that as far as moving items, it still takes just as long to send them in a shulker as it would individually... but it seems like this would be a bit more server-friendly since you're only sending one item through the droppers and not 1,728 items.
Could the top level be revamped to have the dropper elevator feed a series of unloader if the redstone could be compacted further? Good news: PhotonBurst on the Xisuma Discord server has his own take on the V1 that incorporates that very feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAg2H-DJBgY
