Well, I got Minecraft working again (Installing Java x64) and I had to up the memory too, in order for the game to handle this new texture pack (I upped it to 3GB of Ram for safety). I just run around and check out a few things with this pack, I don't show nearly everything in the game (I only recently started this world).

In any case, this is a high resolution (256x256) overhaul for Minecraft, which normally runs at 16x16 (so in other words, the textures are massively more detailed and it certainly shows).

The same modder actually has a 512x512 pixel mod available (In the RPG Flavor), but I haven't gotten around to trying to get it to work.

You can find this same mod available in varying resolutions, ranging from the Minecraft default of 16x16 pixels, up to the 256x256 one I'm using, as well as two different types (The regular Photorealistic one, and an RPG flavor). Check out the URL at the bottom if you want to give it a shot.

As to Performance, it seems that texture packs don't really cut into the FPS. I didn't notice poor performance with this mod on. The only real differences is that (at least with the higher resolution textures) it eats up memory. Minecraft already requires something like a GB to run without bumping up the textures. In other words, as long as you have a decent amount of Ram available (I would suggest ~2GB for XP, and 3GB+ for Vista and Windows 7) the game should remain as playable as it was before (the FPS you get from vanilla should be similar to the FPS you get with this high resolution texture mod).
