In this Minecraft Tutorial, I will show you how to set up multiple minecraft clients on your desktop, so you can separate your adventures effortlessly without the use of something like multmc, magic launcher, or any of the other options currently available out there.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO TYPE IN THE TEXT FILE:
SET APPDATA=C:\Minecraft\SinglePlayer
C:\Minecraft\Minecraft.exe
By utilizing multiple clients for minecraft (two minecraft clients, or more), you are able to separate your files into 2 folders. By doing this, you can mod both versions of minecraft separately. I can also show you exactly why this will allow you to place your minecraft folder and minecraft.jar, exactly where you want it so its easier to find. No more will you have to go through your roaming/.appdata/.minecraft folder to find your minecraft installation.

This Minecraft Tutorial goes over in detail how to set up multiple clients in minecraft. There are some things that you'll have to get setup first before doing this efficiently, and I figured I'd show people just how to do that. With the way I have my multiple clients set up, is that I have everything directly within C:/Minecraft, and I have multiple folders for various occasions. Single Player Lets Plays, Multiplayer Clients, Mod Spotlight Client, Tutorial Client, etc. I also have backup copies so when I need to refresh something to a default state I just copy over the content and it'll work.
You'll want to rename some file extensions, so you cannot see file extensions I show you how to get that setup and showing on Windows 7. The way to do it on Windows XP or Vista is similar. Seeing it on most linux distributions should be enabled by default. I am unsure about how to do this for Mac OSX, but thats because I do not own a mac at all.
