This is the second part of a minecraft client editing tutorial that I have done, so if you want to take full advantage of this allocate more ram tutorial for minecraft, I suggest you take a look at the following tutorial on how to set up multiple clients in minecraft (perfect for youtubers and minecraft lets players):
MULTIPLE MINECRAFT CLIENTS:
Within this tutorial, I will show you both how to go through and allocate ram to just a fresh copy of minecraft, as well as how to add more memory to the custom clients that we created in the previous tutorial (the most beneficial part of this, as not many others have done a tutorial on it)
A word of caution, I'd first double-check how much ram you have on your computer and save at least 1.5gb for your operating system (if Windows 7). If the operating system is not Windows 7, then adjust accordingly.
To get the most bang for your bang, I'd suggest also checking out how to install optifine and actually installing optifine standard, to give you a further boost in performance for your minecraft client.

Remember, this simple allocating memory to minecraft tutorial will help you give your minecraft better performance, if your computer can handle it. Don't go overboard on the numbers if your computer is low on ram or does not have enough ram. For that, I suggest grabbing yourself more RAM for your computer, as that could be the cause of your performance spikes as well.
