We are finally getting into the meat of the plot! Detective Miller has betrayed us! Ropeburn is dead! Our sister is being set up for murder by a hitman who just ruined our only chance at finding out the truth! We have been playing this game for a couple of hours, and only just now does it feel like Faith has a personal stake in the struggles that are going on in this city. Now we have to rush off to the mall to make a meeting with the hitman, which seems like a horrible idea since they have clearly seen my face while they took out Ropeburn. Instead of looking for more evidence around the meeting location, or chasing after the now fully exposed Detective Miller, Faith decides that it would be for the best to rush back into the building and confront guards. Specifically confronting guards all the way down into the basement of the building and the subway system.
The plot of this game is obviously not the focus, but it has taken a really long time to warm up.We finally have a true entity that we are able to chase after that has caused this entire problem, and we have a better idea of the over-arching corporate structure that is trying to take over the city. The amorphous “Corporatism” would have made a difficult to execute conflict in the case of a video games, because it doesn’t focus on any actual goals that can be achievable by one person. Now we have actual people involved that we can go after…. But it doesn’t seem like it is going to effect much change in the world. At best Faith is fighting to maintain the status quo, which goes against everything we know about her character - which is nearly nothing to begin with.
Faith is a rebel, and her very existence is not tolerated by the Powers That Be, so it is odd that she still seems motivated solely by the trouble that her sister is in. At this point she should be investigating much deeper into what Project Icarus is trying to accomplish rather than clearing her sister’s name since they are both really the same goal. I really wish I understood her motives more, because everything we have seen so far goes in the face of what her actions are telling us about her as a character.
