MODOK Explained: What's Up With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's Big-Headed Baddie?
1,094MCU fans rejoice, Phase 5 is almost here. With the arrival of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, the next era of Marvel movies begins. The new Ant-Man trailer showcases an epic battle between Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Kang the Conqueror (Jonathon Majors) after the hero and his family accidentally open a portal to the Quantum Realm... again. But while we knew all of that before this multiversal trailer, one thing that the new clip confirms is the arrival of one of Marvel's wildest and most maniacal villains, MODOK (or M.O.D.O.K. if you want to get technical)!
But who is the giant floating head? What does his moniker mean? And why is the actor playing him already familiar? Strap in, readers — you're in for an infinitely strange yet satisfying ride through MODOK history...
Like many of Marvel's most inventive and awesome creations, MODOK came from the minds of Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. He's first mentioned in Tales of Suspense #93 as Captain America is captured by the evil organization known as A.I.M. on a rescue mission to find Agent 13. But it wasn't until the next issue that readers actually met the terrifying creation when he revealed himself to our hero, and the history of MODOK was revealed.
Meanwhile, in MCU land, the casting rumor that has now turned out to be true is that Ant-Man's Corey Stoll is returning in Quantumania. But the actor who portrayed the villainous Darren Cross won't be returning as Yellowjacket. Instead, he's taking on the gargantuan task of bringing Marvel's most famous floating head to life. Stoll was seen momentarily in the latest trailer, his face enlarged to giant proportions as... MODOK...
