Momotarō Densetsu (桃太郎伝説シリーズ).
0Momotarō Densetsu (桃太郎伝説, lit. "Momotarō Legend" or "Peach Boy Legend"), also known by the abbreviated name Momoden, is a role-playing video game series in Japan featuring the character Momotarō (桃太郎, lit. "Peach Boy") from Japanese folklore, as well as other Japanese folklore characters such as Kintarō, Urashima Tarō, and Princess Kaguya (from The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter). The first game in franchise, Momotarō Densetsu, had shipped 1 million copies in Japan.
Started in 1987, the series was initially produced by Hudson Soft. Konami absorbed the company in 2012. In 2015, a rumor stated that the franchise was acquired by Nintendo, though no official word from either Nintendo or Konami has been given. Momotarō Densetsu has many sub-series, including Momotaro Dentetsu. As with Momotaro Dentetsu, the project supervisor for the Momotaro Densetsu series is Akira Sakuma, with illustration by Takayuki Doi (土居 孝幸) and main music production by Kazuyuki Sekiguchi of Southern All Stars.
In addition to the Momotaro Densetsu and Momotaro Dentetsu series, Hudson has produced several other video games in the Momotaro franchise, including the Momotaro Festival (桃太郎まつり, Momotarō Matsuri) series, the Momotaro Thunderbolt (桃太郎電劇, Momotarō Dengeki) series, and Momotaro Katsugeki (桃太郎活劇). The franchise has sold 15 million units, including the Momotaro Dentetsu spin-off series.
A Momotaro Densetsu anime series was also broadcast, which had its own spinoff, PEACH COMMAND: Shin Momotaro Densetsu (PEACH COMMAND 新桃太郎伝説), featuring a different storyline set in outer space. Both series were animated by Knack Productions.
桃太郎伝説シリーズ（ももたろうでんせつシリーズ）は、ハドソンより発売されたコンピュータRPGのシリーズ名。
「桃伝」（ももでん）という略称でも認知されている。同じ作者の別シリーズ『桃太郎電鉄』は「桃鉄」（ももてつ）と呼び、「桃伝」と区別している。
派生タイトルとして、前述のコンピュータボードゲーム『桃太郎電鉄』シリーズのほか、アクションゲーム『桃太郎活劇』などがある。
本シリーズや『桃太郎電鉄』シリーズなど、桃太郎の名が冠されたすべてのシリーズ作品の総称としては「桃太郎シリーズ」と称される。
おとぎ話『桃太郎』を題材にしたRPGシリーズで、監督はさくまあきら、イラストは土居孝幸、音楽はサザンオールスターズの関口和之が、一部作品では「キャプテン翼J」のオープニングテーマ『Fighting!』を手掛けた宮路一昭と、ドラゴンボールの主題歌「魔訶不思議アドベンチャー!」を手掛けた池毅も音楽を担当している。
第1作目の『桃太郎伝説』はファミリーコンピュータ（ファミコン）用ソフトとして1987年10月26日にハドソンより「マル超シリーズ」のVOL.3として発売され、売上100万本を達成。なお同作はハドソン初のRPGでもある。
物語の大まかな流れは、主人公の桃太郎がイヌ、サル、キジをお供につけて鬼が島の鬼を退治するという、昔話の『桃太郎』を踏襲した内容だが、物語の中では『花咲かじいさん』や『金太郎』、『浦島太郎』など、他の昔話のキャラクターが数多く登場する。
ゲームシステムは一般的なRPGと同様だが、鬼や妖怪などが敵として登場し、レベルを「段」、経験値・MP・HPをそれぞれ「心」「技」「体」と呼び、通貨単位を「両」とするなど、和風仕立てになっている。
敵を倒すことを「こらしめる」と表現し、相手の命を奪うことはない。また、桃太郎たちの体力が0になることを「ちからつきる」と表現し、桃太郎以外に仲間がいても桃太郎が力尽きた時点で全滅扱いになる。
ギャグ要素が強く、発売当時に流行していたテレビ番組（『なるほど!ザ・ワールド』など）のネタや話題の人物を思わせるキャラクターが多く登場する。
1989年から1991年にかけては、本シリーズを元にしたテレビアニメ『桃太郎伝説 PEACHBOY LEGEND』『PEACH COMMAND 新桃太郎伝説』がテレビ東京系などで放送された。
