Monster Hunter {PS2} First Time - Hunt#2 Yian Kut-Ku
lol you can totally tell this is my first time ever playing this series...
Ok so I accidentally saved my file after completing the 1st encounter so thats why there's no monster introduction. We also get to a new area already.
The Yian Kut-Ku is the game's first big dragon type monster that you have to hunt so noticing how much of a can of whoop-ass it opened on me during this run, I cant even fathom how much damage (and annoyance/fun) the rest of the big hunts will be.
During your first encounter, he'll always show up at Area 2 (this is where the cutscene happens), but in later runs he randomly appears in other Areas such as 1 and 3. The first annoyance that caught my attention quickly is that hunting gets soooooo jacked up when other monsters are trying to eat your face. There are areas where monsters can infinity re-spawn or not and knowing which areas they do can help better prepare to manage your attention/attacks. Area 2 is ideally the best place to fight it since there is no danger but Area 3 isnt too shabby as long as you quickly punish those retarded ass cat buglers which can steal your stuff.
Obviously I didnt properly prepare myself for this except for using a Demon Drug which increases your character's attack for the rest of the quest (unless you die). The thing is susceptible to sound so using Sonic Bombs are useful for staggering (unless it's raged). The Yian Kut-Ku can spit out and produce flames so equipping armors that resist that are...dur..der...derp smurt!
As for me since I wanted to Leon/Lloyd/Spada it up with my character, the dual blade's Demonization ability nicely gives you a little bit of a penetrate effect (yes I'm using Tales terminology) so you wont get staggered as much by many of his hits as well as resisting Wind Pressure *ahem*ex: wyverns lifting off and such.
For methods of attacking him, I later learned its best to...um... Shunrenjin (Blade Fury?) over and over again between his legs (along with regulary slashing him) so you dont get majorly hit by his pecking and tail swipping. For a newfag like me, I still find it tricky to read a monster's pattern so please (ugh his football tackle and seizure spam hurts alot in more ways than one)...PLEASE bare with me on this run because of it. It's also very good to ...uh...Ensenga (Shining Fang?) his ears and face...I heard you can cutt it off or something but what do I know?
Overall despite my sloppiness, I'm happy I managed to defeat it without being too armor reliant.
