Mortal Kombat is the next installment of the cult series of fighting games, famous for its exceptional brutality, expressive characters and bloody finishes called Fatalities. NetherRealm Studios (formerly Warner Bros. Games Chicago) is responsible for its development, managed by the originator of the brand, Ed Boon.
In Mortal Kombat, the emphasis was placed on brutality and uncompromising nature. The fights are not only dynamic, but above all very bloody, which is certainly a great asset for fans of the series. In terms of gameplay mechanics, the new Mortal Kombat is a modernized version of the old, two-dimensional installments of the series. This means that the struggle, although shown in three dimensions, takes place in 2D space. In this way, the creators wanted to combine the classic with modernity. The latter is also represented by a completely new graphics engine, designed specifically for the new Mortal Kombat.
Among the novelties that have been included in the work of NetherRealm Studios, it is worth mentioning two game modes: Story Mode (which is not just a mediocre addition, but a full-fledged element), and Tag Team. In the case of the latter, of course, it is about the battles of two-person teams - in online play, this means the possibility of up to four players participating in the fight at the same time. As part of the multiplayer mode, Mortal Kombat buyers can also take part in classic 1-on-1 fights (also offline) and in Co-op Arcade Mode. Another novelty is the challenge mode, in which the game's heroes have to face specific tasks, including defeating hordes of zombies attacking the player, or winning the fight by performing only special moves. This is complemented by various mini-games for all the characters of the game.
An innovation in the series is also the X-Ray system, used to launch special, extremely brutal attacks. It is based on an energy bar divided into three parts, charged by taking damage and dealing special blows. After charging the bar, we can perform a powerful sequence of strokes. Each player has a unique X-Ray combination.
There are many well-known and popular characters in the game. The player can play e.g. in: Raiden, Shao Khan, Johnny Cage, Reptile, Nightwolf, Mileena, Kung Lao, Sektor and Sub-Zero.
