65Mortal Kombat II exploded into Arcades in 1993 and was a major success. Most arcades would have two machines to handle the large crowds that would flock to the game on a daily basis. Long lines would form around the machines with players amazed at the drastic upgrade over the previous game. When compared to the original MK, this was a massive improvement in every single area.
Walking up to the arcade you would hear the bass booming from the awesome soundtrack created by Dan Forden, which amped up your excitement to get in there and play. I used to show up an hour before the arcade opened so I could get a few games in before the mob showed up and took over. Once the crowds were there, you might only get one or two games in, unless you managed to start a win streak on the other players. I did manage to do that a few times, but most of the time you would be spectating instead of playing. What an amazing time in the arcades, a real shame those days have passed.
