The NES Changed Video Games Forever #nes #nintendo
The Nintendo Entertainment System. Released in 1985, it quickly became the number one video game system in the world. It single handedly saved the video game industry after it suffered a huge crash in 1983. It was known as the Family Computer in Japan, then brought to America and re-branded as an "Entertainment System Toy" with the R.O.B. The Robot. This was because most retailers didn't want to carry video games anymore due to the oversaturation that had previously caused the crash of 83'.
By pushing it as a "toy", retailers were more open to carrying it in their stores. Once it was on shelves it wasn't long before Nintendo would take over the video game industry. R.O.B. was retired pretty quickly after the system took off. He had accomplished his mission... getting the Nintendo Entertainment System on American store shelves.
