RAYDEN PLAYTHROUGH
Raiden is introduced as the Thunder God in his human form. Before his storyline was expanded as the protector of Earthrealm against Outworld, Raiden was simply rumored to have received a personal invitation from Shang Tsung himself to compete in the tournament.
As the Thunder God, Rayden is weaker in his mortal form, but can still use his elements in his special move. He is notable to have lighting going around himself in his fighting stance.
Rayden projectile is his lighting, which is done slower than the arcade original, but can hit air opponents more efficiently. His infamous Torpedo, which causes him to shout loud gibberish, was introduced in the first game and cause him to push his opponent for a while before crashing on either side of the screen. If blocked, he bounces back, far away from his opponent but is vulnerable to counter. He also has the ability to teleport, which bring him on the opposite side of his opponent. While fast in the Arcade, the move is very slow in the Super NES port.
Rayden main against the CPU is his long reach. He is larger than the playable character and his basic move go farther than the others. His air move has great priority as well as his sweep. His lighting move can protect him from the air opponent when they are close to him and the CPU will often get caught by it hit when far. His Torpedo and Teleport are slow, which make them risky to use. The CPU will often counter them.
In the Super NES port and many other home ports, Raiden is misspelled as Rayden. While it is an oversight in the first game, later game in the series was inconsistent in their spelling. Sometime, it was written as Raiden, and sometimes as Rayden.
As a side note, a CPU Rayden will never his teleport move. While the CPU avoided the move in the arcade version as well, a CPU Shang Tsung would immediately morph into him and teleport when stuck.
