SUB-ZERO PLAYTHROUGH

Sub-Zero is the second ninja character in the game. Unlike Scorpion, he is part of the Lin Kuei, which are said to be a legendary clan of Chinese ninja. His clan opposes Scorpion’s one, but its is not clear what leaded to this feud. One thing for sure, Sub-Zero entered the tournament with the aim to assassinate Shang Tsung, awarding him a large sum of money if he succeeds.

Sub-Zero has two special moves. He is able to use his ice elemental ability to shoot a blast of ice. Although not damaging, the opponent is frozen for a few seconds, giving Sub-Zero the time to perform another move. His second move is his slide, which consists of quickly rush toward his opponent for a sweep. Although it deals minimal damage, it is an excellent counter or combo under.

Sub-Zero fatality was censored in the Super NES port. However, his censored fatality is notable to actually use his elemental power as well as being adapted as an official fatality in Mortal Kombat II. Sub-Zero will jump backward and throw an ice ball which will freeze the opponent into a unique sprite exclusive to this port. Then, he will jump close to him and perform a close punch, causing his opponent to shatter in a piece of ice until it reaches the bottom of the legs.

Dues to the engine of the Super NES version of the game, which is different from the arcade, Sub-Zero can be considered a broken character. It is because when he freezes his opponent near the corner, he can perform a well-timed jump kick followed by quick move (such as standing low punch), juggling his opponent until he is defeated. The freeze time is also higher, being almost 8 seconds (more than the arcade original), giving him time to push his opponent and perform the infinite. Every character, including the bosses can be stuck in this loop. Outside of that, he has the same range as Scorpion with his roundhouse kick and his jump kick, having great reach against his opponent.

As a side note, when Sub-Zero freeze Goro and sweep him, this will not cause the latter to unfreeze, since normally, Goro will not react to the move (but he will still take damage). It is possible to sweep three times and then perform an uppercut before he can do anything, removing about 50% of his health.
