Book I: A Bit of Horoscoping
Chapter 5
The knight stopped again near a tall hill and quickly tidied up both himself and his horse. He climbed back into the saddle, laid his sword across his knees, lifted his ancestral hunting horn, and sending a prayer to the gods and the stars, drew it to his lips.
Chapter 6
From the cave, like a gleam streak of mercury, slithered the dragon, dark copper with strands of gold.
"Are you the vile, bloodthirsty beast who is terrorizing the whole of these parts?" asked Melrick arrogantly, as knightly tradition dictated.
"No, I'm a beautiful and unsullied maiden," answered the dragon mischievously, stretching its wings and refolding them with pleasure. "An evil sorcerer put a spell on me."
Chapter 7
The knighted dismounted, bowed down on one knee ceremoniously before the dragon, took it's scaly muzzle in his hands, winced, and kissed it reverently, right on the lips.
Chapter 8
The beast's eyes shot wide open. It recoiled, landed on its own tail, and scrambled away from the pervert with a frantic scraping of talons. Leaning against the hill, the dragon shuddered, looked around, and finally remembered it knew how to fly. It spread its wings, leapt into the air, and soared away without looking back, spitting black flame.
Chapter 9
A maiden peeked cautiously out of the cave. Though she was no longer exactly unsullied, she was still absolutely beautiful. She squinted in bewilderment at the spot in the sky, melting away into the distance, and her little face, expertly rouged and paled in all the right places, twisted in anger.
"Rogue! Swindler! Bandy-legged little vermin!" she shouted at the disappearing dragon. "You're as slimy as you look! And scaly! And - huh?"
