Mt. Pugh (also known by its native name Da Klagwats) is 7201' mountain situated between the Sauk River valley and White Chuck River valley. To get there from Darrington, WA, take the Mountain Loop Highway to forest access road 2095 and follow it until you reach the trailhead in about another 1.5 miles.

This climb is known for its low starting point and an arduous 5300' elevation gain in around 5 miles, a demand that requires hikers to be in good shape, high endurance is also required. The first waypoint is Metan Lake, about an hour into the hike. From there you hike up to a boulder field that marks the beginning of the ascent to Stujack Pass. From there, hikers follow a ridge to the summit block for the final ascent.

Along the ridge you'll also find the remains of a lookout that was first established in 1916 before being built into a cabin with a cupola in1922. This cabin was destroyed by lightning in 1927 and rebuilt before being destroyed again in 1965 and never rebuilt.

For those that make it to the top you'll be rewarded with one of the most spectacular views in the Mountain Loop Highway region with vistas of Glacier Peak, Sloan Peak, the Gothic Basin, Columbia Peak, Kyes Peak, Monte Cristo, Mt. Baker, Shuksan, Mt. Rainier, the Olympics, Monte Cristo, Three Fingers, and White Chuck.
