The Intercity Through Train Service was an important part of Hong Kong History. Its first services was on the date of 5th October, 1911. It was operated by Kowloon-Canton Railway Department.
Due to the out break of Japan invasion in WW2 has begun. The Intercity Through Train Service was forced to stop until 1946.
After that, the China Civil War between Republic of China(ROC) and Chinese Communist Party(CCP) was started again after WW2. In 1949, CCP won the war and ROC was forced to retreat to Taiwan. A new China Government has established (PRC).
As the ideology of PRC and Hong Kong are different at that time, the Intercity Through Train Service was forced to stop again until the end of 1970s.
1979, The PRC was implemented Reform and Opening Up Policy, the Intercity Through Train Service was able to resumed and it has been keeping upgrade to improve the travelling experiences in these years.
In 1982, the Kowloon-Canton Railway Departmentwas reformed and re-establish as Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC).
In 1998, A brand new Kowloon Canton Railway Through Train (Ktt) was put into service and operated by KCRC. The Ktt was also an important part of the Hong Kong railway as it is the only Intercity Through Train that was operated by Hong Kong company.
In 2007, The KCRC was merged with the MTR Corporation Limited(MTR) and the operation of Intercity Through Train Service was changed to the MTR.
With the operation of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Rail Hong Kong Section began in 2018. Some of the original passengers were change to take the High Speed Rail instead .
In 2020, the outbreak of the COVID19 stopped the Intercity Through Train Service again. The Hong Kong and the Chinese government were announced that Intercity Through Train will never resumed and being replaced by the High Speed Rail instead at 31st July, 2024.
In 2024, MTR announced that part of the Ktt, will be restored at the Station Rail Voyage Exhibition at Hung Hom Station. Which is putting an end to the Intercity Through Train Service and we can only remember it by the video and photo.
