Reviews
Wage War - Low https://youtu.be/t2d3EDNDCn8
Gotta be thankful for Youtube suggested videos! This is going to be a hybrid review, because it is a band I just found and a song I have never heard previously. The video is an interesting spin on a performance video. Super minimalist with some close-ups on the vocalist and some fancy camera/software moves with the other members of the band in a white box. Then when the melodic vocals come in it becomes a generic metalcore video. The song is fairly generic in its delivery, solid in the heavy parts but weak in the soaring “melodic” bits. Structurally it breaks a bit from the ABAC standard but not so much as to be ground breaking.

August Burns Red - Ocarina of Time https://youtu.be/nbf0d2UHLrQ
These guys have way too much fun making music. First they put out a new christmas album last month, now this. They feature Dustin Davidson on the lead melody for this tune. I am unfamiliar with Mr. Davidson, but the addition of the third guitar is absolutely needed to get those harmonies just right. The standard crushing heavies we get from ABR behind those melodies are fantastic as well. The arrangement (because with ABR you can’t really call their instrumental stuff “structured”) enhances the overall feel of the tune too.

Born of Osiris - Cycles of Tragedy https://youtu.be/l56plK0uReo
Final Music review for the week is this video from Born of Osiris’ most recent record, The Simulation. Another play on the “performance” style video. The thing about performance style videos is that they leave the song to stand on it’s own. And this song is not one of the stronger releases from the band, so it is difficult to throw too much praise at this. That being said, I like Born of Osiris, and I am looking forward to hearing more from this record to see what the new guitar player has to offer.
General Score: 70/100
Video Quality: 70/100
Song Enhancement: 50/100
