From the looks of them this iteration of the show is going to be more drama and less cool alien stuff than the original… or maybe I am remembering the original wrong.
Hanna
Amazon has greenlit and now cast the leads for a serial adaptation of the 2011 action thriller originally starring Saoirse Ronan as the titular character of Hanna. Now that role goes to Esme Creed-Miles from Dark River. Taking the role originated by Eric Bana in the original is Altered Carbon and Suicide Squad’s Joel Kinnaman, and for the Cate Blanchett role they have cast Mireille Enos, who co-starred with Kinnaman in The Killing back in 2011 on AMC.

Star Trek: Discovery
We all know that Spock is set to play a part in season 2, and now we are getting a little more info on where the character is psychologically from the actor set to play him, Ethan Peck. Speaking to TV insider he has said that because this is a younger Spock we will be getting a rare glimpse of him struggling with his emotional human side. Saying “He’s dealing with his human side for the first time since childhood, a process that is essential to his development.” So, will this Spock live up to Nemoy or even Quinto’s portrayal of the character?
Picard
The new Star Trek show streaming on CBS later this year, had just been confirmed to be happening AFTER the events of the 2009 Trek movie, in which the Romulan homeworld was destroyed. According to Exec Producer Alex Kurtzman, the destruction of Romulus’s destruction will have radically altered Picard’s life.
Legion
All the crazy merger talk in the Fox/Disney camps hasn’t shaken the Legion series, as they have just announced that Lauren Tsai has joined the cast of Legion’s third season as Switch, “a young mutant whose secret ability serves as the key to executing David Haller’s plan.”
Reviews
The Mist
The originally airing on Spike is on Netflix now, and I just waded my way through it’s one and only season. Having watched the movie, I wasn’t super keen on watching it. But I am a bit of a horror fan, and so is my better half, so we caved this weekend. Let’s start with what this season did well.
The suspense is highly effective. It capitalizes on the “unknown” feeling that the mist brings with it, as well as the worst side of humanity that comes in times of crisis. The subversion of expectations is pretty refreshing too. Since it originally aired in 2017 the whole time I was wondering if they ACTUALLY would flip it like they did. So, to a certain respect it goes exactly where it is telegraphing, but because of the implied politics it keeps you second guessing yourself.
Now, all the not so good bits. The writing is pretty poor, and at times the dialogue, especially in the later episodes when people start getting desperate. Most of the acting is pretty mediocre, not too much to complain about or praise, but Frances Conroy is a shining example of overacting. I have never really been a fan of her other work either so that wasn’t too surprising.
General Score: 65/100
Mythology: 85/100
Writing: 60/100
Enjoyability: 60/100
