It's almost hard to believe, but it's been over 10 years now since Interplay began publishing a few ground-breaking games which rejuvenated the singleplayer-oriented Western RPG genre, transformed an obscure Canadian company called Bioware into one of the most influential game developers in the world and taught every self-respecting PC gamer to spell unusual names such as "Muzyka", "Zeschuk", "Avellone" and "Urquhart". It's safe to say that the creative achievements of independent developer Bioware and Interplay's internal division Black Isle changed the overall trajectory of RPG history forever, and I for one probably never would have gotten into Western roleplaying games at all if it hadn't been for the original Baldur's Gate. Many younger gamers apparently say the same thing about Knights of the Old Republic (although that always seemed a bit strange to me, as KOTOR is not really one of Bioware's best or most memorable releases) and even the original Mass Effect, so it's clear that the Canadians continue to inspire new generations of RPG gamers.

Featured in this video is my current collection of games made by Bioware, Black Isle and Obsidian. Since I'm not a "real" game collector I've long since got rid of most of those big sexy boxes which used to accompany PC games (though I do have a few more manuals left than is shown in this video), but I've least kept all CDs in their original cases (and there are no discounted DVD re-releases; just the original multi-CD versions). This is not a complete collection, by the way, since I never bothered buying the early expansion packs to BG1 and ID1. Also, my copy of Jade Empire (possibly my least favorite Bioware game) is stored away among my rarely used Xbox 1 games.
