My Channel Was HACKED by Crypto Scammers :/
0Never thought I'd fall for something like that, but it did happen. Last week I feel for a hacking attempt that has been on-going and affecting youtubers since the past year or so.
Pretending the be a legitimate company, the peeps send emails with sponsorship offers for upcoming games. The games are real and the emails look legitimate, so like many, i fell in the trap. After I downloaded and ran their phishing software, they logged into my google account, changed all my recovery options and locked me out. Then they started streaming some unrelated click bait, cryptocurrency scam.
While falling for the bait was entirely my fault, the lax security that allowed the attacker to get past 2-factor authentication and the lack of a clear, transparent way of contacting google to recover the account, are some pretty serious flaws of the system.
With the help of TeamYoutube(contacted via Twitter) I managed to regain my account and channel. But we need some more robust protections against these threats.
