MY LONGEST LONGPLAY OF 2016: Amnesia walkthrough (Apple II - Cognetics/Electronic Arts)
You wake up in a hotel room, without any idea who you are and how you ended up there. You would meet people who seem to know you and want to help you, but should you trust them? You set on a quest to discover your identity and your past.
Amnesia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amnesia_%28video_game%29) was a text adventure game created by Cognetics Corp. and published by Electronic Arts in 1986 for the Apple ][. Powered by the King Edward adventure engine, Amnesia was the only text adventure game ever published by EA.
Hope you enjoy the walkthrough!
On a personal note, this walkthrough was the longest and most involving one I have ever done. I read the original manuscript written by Thomas M. Disch (http://gue.cgwmuseum.org/galleries/index.php?pub=0&item=67&id=3&key=1) and came up with a solution that touches the key elements in the script. The realistic depiction of New York City in the game was amazing for a game at that time, but it had me constantly checking the city map and subway map. Now, I've got a much better understanding of NYC subway lines, although the ones used in the game (such as RR and LL) were mostly phased out or replaced :) Here is an interesting commentary about the author and the game: http://www.filfre.net/2014/09/amnesia/
The long play is done by Smartadventurer, a program that I wrote to automate the playing for vintage Apple ][ games. You can follow the project here: https://vinniethelung.wordpress.com/tag/smartadventurer/
