9In response to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's plan for a ban on the sale of tobacco to future generations of adults in the UK, the smokers' group Forest invited opponents of the policy to discuss some of the serious issues it raises. These include the infantilisation of adults, the impact on retailers, and the boost it will give illegal traders.
The event, at Old Queen Street Cafe in Westminster on 20th November 2023, also marked the publication of 'Freedom: Up In Smoke?', the latest Letter on Liberty published by the Academy of Ideas.
Moderated by Ella Whelan (Academy of Ideas), speakers were Simon Clark (Forest), Baroness Fox of Buckley, Henry Hill (ConservativeHome), and Reem Ibrahim (Institute of Economic Affairs).
