This video shows Nascar Thunder 2004 on the Playstation 2 being played online with the LAN tunneling program Xlink Kai. We played this on 5/30/11.

I am not normally one to buy and play simulation sports games like this, but I picked this game up because it has an interesting thing about it. It has a secret LAN mode that you can only access by inputting a code. That code is :

"LAN mode (must be connected to a local network or the internet) At the main menu press L2+R2+Triangle"

I picked up the game simply to see if this was true and this game does in fact have a hidden LAN mode. We tried playing this on Xlink Kai and discovered that it only lets 2 players play at once through the LAN mode. It still supports usb keyboard chat through the LAN mode which is nice.

As you can see in the video I didn't play too seriously ahha. We mainly just wanted to test this games LAN mode out and how it tunneled over xlink kai. Apparently NASCAR frowns upon racers driving in the wrong direction. I think booting me out of the LAN mode entirely for that was a bit extreme though ahaha.

This multiplayer game of Nascar Thunder 2004 was played with a program called Xlink Kai ( http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/ ) .It lets you play PS2 games online even once their online servers are taken down. This means that playstation 2 games can be played online forever. The catch is it only works with games with a LAN mode. This is because the program uses a games LAN to trick the game into thinking players across the world are playing on its Local Area Network (LAN).

Make sure you get version 7.3.1.7 of Xlink Kai. The versions newer than that do not work with PS2 at all. To get this version just go to the downloads section of Xlink Kai's website. "Then choose Xlink Kai: Evolution 7" and it should download version 7.3.1.7 Or you can click here to directly download it from their site ( http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/binary/XLinkKai-7.3.1.7-win32.msi )

*important* the above link to find version 7.3.1.7 doesn't work anymore. It is supposedly temporarily out of the downloads section. So for now, you have to get it from this thread on the xlink kai forums:
