Torpedo Range (Game Boy) Gameplay
This video is of some gameplay from the game Torpedo Range for the NIntendo Gameboy. I recorded it by playing the game on my Gamecube's Game Boy Player.
This was a game I owned as a little kid and I completely forgot it existed until recently. I must have sold off the cartridge years ago. I recently rebought it for $4 even though I knew it wasn't a great game. I was just too curious to replay it.
Well the game has a fun concept. You pick a country and steer your submarine around the ocean and fight other submarines, boats, airplanes, and eventually a port city of another country.
It it very interesting for a little bit, but the game's big flaw is that it relies on extreme repetition to make the game lengthy. You basically do 4 or 5 mini-games over and over again until you level up your submarine enough to be able to finish the sort of "boss level" where you capture a city from a country and take over that country.
Once you take over a country you travel to the next one and do the same 4 or 5 mini games over and over yet again. Then you fight the port city of that country and take it over just like before. The enemy designs very slightly change depending on the country you fight, but the gameplay stays pretty much identical to before.
I think if this game varied the gameplay a little more it could have been really good. The gameplay is fun for a short while but gets way too repetive.
The game has a battery save function at least. It would drive people insane I think if all that leveling up was lost when you turned off the game.
