Following Catelyn Stark's arrest of Tyrion Lannister, Tywin Lannister responded by sending Sir Gregor "the Mountain" Clegane to attack villages in the kingdom of Catelyn's family: the Riverlands. When a villager comes before Ned Stark, the Hand of the King, with word of these raids, Ned responds by denouncing Gregor Clegane as a traitor, sending Lord Beric Dondarrion to bring him to justice, and demands that Tywin Lannister arrive within two weeks to answer for the crimes of his men, or he will be branded a traitor himself.
