This game might have the best introduction to any racing game. We have a nice mix of some races and cut-scenes to help setup the games' story. Basically, it's a revenge story. The prologue sets up how Razor messed around with our car causing us to lose it, and now we're on a mission to get it back, no matter the costs. Interestingly, we don't really see Rosewood much during this part of the game.
As with my 2018 playthrough I chose the Cobalt SS as my starter car. While I got the bonus for playing Underground 2 and could buy the golf, I'm going to get one by beating Sonny anyway. The IS200 is also a blacklist car leaving us with the Punto as the other option. While the Punto is ultimately faster once fully upgraded, at this stage of the game, it doesn't matter what car you choose too much.
The E46 BMW M3 GTR as the hero car for this game was an interesting choice to say the least. It did spark my interests in E46s and I owned one myself briefly a few years ago and hope to buy another one (in better shape) soon. When that happens, my other channel will document it!
As with all my other playthroughs, I've recorded this playthrough from original hardware, my slimline PlayStation 2 that I've had since 2006! I did some work in editing to remove black bars (both the regular overscan, and not properly adjusted cut-scenes for 16:9). While widescreen for this game is generally properly implemented, unlike Underground 2, the cut-scenes are still often not displayed properly. I was surprised how far de-interlacing and up-scaling has come since 2018, as the video looks miles better this time around, I'm even using the same capture card and laptop for recording as I did for that one!
