NES Alphanumeric! #009: ADVENTURES OF LOLO (and LOLO 2)
I write young adult science fiction and fantasy stories (Novels: FAIR COIN, THE SILENCE OF SIX), and I love playing 8-bit Nintendo games. But it's hard to find time for both; over the years, I've collected more than 250 NES games, yet I still haven't played most of them for long—or even once!
POST-STREAM THOUGHTS: Adventures of Lolo and Lolo 2 are nearly the same game. They're pretty fun, well-designed, and addictive with catchy, albeit repetitive music. Despite the simple presentation and basic game mechanics, they're also deceptively challenging, especially for those who are not adept at puzzle games. It gets easier as you adapt to the controls and train your brain to think in the game's terms. I'll definitely revisit these from time to time and try to play through all the levels (thank you, passwords!) and wouldn't mind picking up Lolo 3 one day if I can find it for a good price.
