NES Challenge - Tiny Toons in 2:26:10 - [166/714]
It's a fun game with a frustrating last level. Being able to change characters is great, but I wish you could bounce back and forth between the two using the Select button, or even better, collecting the characters and being able to switch between all of them like Nightmare on Elm Street. It would have allowed for more discovery using Dizzy Devil to break through certain walls or Furball to climb walls to get health along the way. Exploration goes a long way for enjoyment, particularly in a childrens game.
As for the nuts and bolts, the difficulty ramps of fairly and unlimited continues allows you to finish the game. Graphics, sound, and control were great, however I did notice some slipups toward the end - that seemed odd. In general it felt very Little Nemoesque in having few problems getting to the last board, and that one taking almost twice the length of the game. The cannon section was brutal until I learned to stand closer to the left side of the platform.
Overall a fantastic game. Other than the ability to character swap, the only change I felt it really needed was the punishment for deaths on bosses and seemingly lack of checkpoints. Everytime you enter a door on the last board, that should be a checkpoint so you can figure it out rather than struggle and have silly failures. The continue was fine bringing you back, but the midstage deaths were annoying. As for a rating, I'd place this around the 300-200 block - not a must have for a collection, but has replayability and there is really nothing wrong with the game; very solid overall.
