NES Homebrew Variety Stream ~ Rhythm Games, Arcade & More, Pt. 2
A brand new stream series where we delve into the world of Homebrews on the Nintendo Entertainment System. This is part one of an ongoing series. Broadcasted live on Twitch -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/3up_moon
Whether it is a full re-creation or NES conversion of a game that never was released for Nintendo (something on the ZX Spectrum or even a Texas Instruments Calculator), or a personal project, or custom fan-game built from the ground up, the Homebrew community is super rich and vibrant. There's lots of great stuff currently being made for systems by hobbyist programmers and game developers, well beyond a console's lifespan
In this episode, we play
Hyperbeatz (2021) ~ NES Rhythm Game composed, programmed and developed by Anthony Blackman
2048 (2011) ~ NES version of a popular puzzle game released in the mid-2000s on mobile phones and PCs
Block Dude (2012) ~ NES Conversion of a Texas Instrument calculator platformer (a game accessible and playable on early Mathematical Calculators)
Chase (2012) ~ An example game, made by a programmer to teach Programming in C on the NES, clearly simplified and inspired by Pac-Man, Clu Clu Land and Bomberman
Chicken of the Farm ~ A janky and purposefully tough platformer where you play as a Frog avoiding birds and other barnyard animals
Driar (2012) ~ A Norway-developed NES arcade puzzle game, where you star as a Pink Dinosaur collecting stars in each stage. Clearly inspired by Bubble Bobble and the Adventures of Lolo series, and a full game with 38 stages
Froggy (2007) ~ A 1k personal project and attempt to create a basic and simplified single stage of a Frogger clone
