0A speedrun of the VS COM mode on Easy difficulty in the NES version of Tetris 2, aiming to complete the 15 rounds as fast as possible.
If you ever wondered what a puzzle game would look like if you took 2 other classic puzzle games in Tetris and Dr. Mario and fused them together? You would get this game known as Tetris 2 (or Tetris Flash in Japan). This game plays very similarly to Dr. Mario, but with Tetris pieces instead of pills. Another difference is that this is a match 3 puzzle game, whereas Dr. Mario is a match 4 puzzle game. In VS COM mode, the goal is to either be the first one to clear all of the fixed blocks on the screen first or to force your opponent to top out by having a piece spawn that overlaps with another block. You can also make chains and multiple simultaneous clears to attack your opponent by having their next piece(s) fall at a fixed, but faster gravity speed which also disables the down button on the D-pad during that time. You can also lower the top of your opponent's field (and/or raise the top of your field if it has been lowered already) by clearing flashing blocks which start at the very bottom of the field and slowly move towards the top as you clear them. First to win 3 games in each round wins the match.
I remember playing this game as a little kid when my grandma was still around and she owned a NES with this as one of the games she played. Always enjoyed watching her play it as she was really good at it and spent many hours playing this game myself trying to get good at it as well, so this game brings back good childhood memories in that regard. Decided to give this a try, and all in all it was a pretty solid run. Hoping to give more of this game a try in the future. Enjoy!
