NetBSD 10.1 on the Nintendo Wii
Short demo of the Nintendo Wii performance with NetBSD 10.1 (evbppc)
Wii specifications are :
RAM: 64 MB + 24 MB RAM
CPU: PPC Broadway @ 729 MHz
I wanted to see if such a hardware could be used today, and surprisingly it could be regarded as a very power efficient console for games (native Wii OS) + system for regular work (NetBSD). While the device is limited in RAM and one can substitute SWAP space on the SSD card, it can be used in a way for accessing current internet and play some basic games. For the window manager I have chosen CDE as this seems to be the closest to the legacy UNIX workstation look/feel you can get.
CDE is compiled from sourceforge sources (non pkgsrc)
ScummVM was custom compiled against SDL1.2 and few core engines. (pkgsrc)
Chocolate-doom was compiled against SDL1.2 (pkgsrc)
Web browsing is done using Dillo (pkgsrc)
