NEVER BOW DOWN | Let's play Cult of the Lamb - #20
Finishing our mission to take out the 4 bishops we go back to The One Who Waits. However, we don't bow down to anyone, so we challenge him in order to keep the dark crown.
The One Who Waits in Cult Of The Lamb is one of the toughest fights the game has to offer. As the final boss players need to ready themselves for a gauntlet of will and skill. This is the only point in the game where players will get the ability to choose from the array of weapons the game has given them before. This foreshadows how tough the fight is going to be.
This guide will be spoiler-free when it comes to any details of the plot. This guide will also allow players to study the moves sets that are given in the four different Phases and hopefully have a positive experience in overcoming this challenge.
The first part of The One Who Waits fight is having to fight one of The One Who Waits' sons--Baal. Baal will do a move where he lets out 3 swings with his staff. Baal prays then floats up to shoot out spikes in four directions. Baal summons cultist enemies. The boss will shoot out a line of spikes.
This line of spikes can be easily dodged by running from it or rolling from it.
He drops a heart at the end of the fight.
Players should try and save this for the fourth phase.
Aym is the second son that players have to fight with a longer range of attacks. Aym will shoot 3 rings of fireballs at the player.
Aym will summon a row of spikes toward the player twice.
Aym will have spikes follow players.
He drops a heart at the end of the fight.
Players should try and save this for the fourth phase.
The One Who Waits is not too difficult once players understand the timing of his moves. The One Who Waits fires a circle of fireballs toward the player 5 times successively. Fires spikes in four directions
The boss will summon four lines of fire that spin around him.
He will shoot two lines of spikes toward the player.
As a note about halfway through when hit enough times the boss will fall and this will create an opening for players to be able to combo their attacks and curse.
The One Who Waits and his three eyes are the most difficult part of the game and where it starts to feel like a real bullet hell. Players will need to take all of this into mind when fighting The One Who Waits' second form:
His three eyes will start to do different attacks that shoot fireballs.
Two of them will be shooting them in six different directions.
One of them is a cluster aimed at the player.
Players don't want to force themselves to target one eye and latch to it as that can make this part tricky. Instead, players should focus on one eye, but when they see that it's about to fire they need to switch to another eye.
As the eyes take damage they will begin to bury themselves underground only leaving one exposed.
The one exposed eye will start to shoot quick circles of fireballs toward the player.
When the first exposed eye is destroyed The One Who Waits will pound the ground summoning two vertical lines of fireballs from the sides of the screen and one horizontal from the top of the screen.
The lines move to the opposite side of where they were summoned from.
Players should dodge through the vertical lines and then the horizontal line.
The One Who Waits does this move a couple of times before the eyes appear again.
The two eyes will start firing in different manners.
They will shoot a barrage of green fireballs upward that land on targeted spots on the floor.
The eyes will shoot quick machine gun shots of fireballs toward the player.
They will also shoot circles of fireballs around them three times.
When the second eye is destroyed The One Who Waits will pound the ground summoning two vertical lines of fireballs from the sides of the screen and one horizontal from the bottom of the screen.
The lines move to the opposite side of where they were summoned from.
Players should dodge through the vertical lines and then the horizontal line.
The One Who Waits does this move a couple of times before the last eye appears again.
The last eye does all of the same moves as before but in quicker succession.
It's quick and easy to kill.
The One Who Waits' head will fall on the map and players hit it until the boss dies.
