The heavy barrel on the m870 makes the pellet do 15 damage instead of 14, which makes close range fights way more consistent with a higher 1 shot % , you also get some leeway to miss a few pellets (4).

Why the HB over choke?

The choke does reduce the spread more but with the pistol grip the hipfire spread is already tight enough for most gunfights, you can get more out of the HB.
