New Fiat Pulse 2022 | Fiat 's new compact SUV revealed
Brand confirms the name chosen by customers in voting. Model will have 1.3 aspirated and 1.0 turbo engines
One more piece of the puzzle of Fiat 's new compact SUV was finally revealed, with the disclosure of the name chosen by the public for the vehicle: Fiat Pulse. This baptism competed with the Tuo and Domo options, in a vote that was opened as soon as the manufacturer showed the car in the final of Big Brother Brazil 2021 . Despite this, his arrival will only take place between September and October.
Fiat Pulse is the brand's first compact SUV to be sold in Brazil, with production in Betim (MG). It uses a modular platform called MLA, which is an evolution of Argo 's PM1 , but with so many changes in steel and construction that the company says it has little in common with the hatchback. After all, the goal was for the vehicle to perform well in the Latin NCAP crash test, in addition to meeting the new Rota 2030 standards.
According to Fiat, 65% of the public's votes went to the Pulse name. Next came Domo with 25%, while Tuo was chosen by only 10% of voters. Everything already indicated for the Pulse baptism, since the three finalists of BBB 21 also chose this name, which ended up influencing the vote a little.
Without divulging too many details yet, the Italian brand only says that the Pulse will have a wheelbase of 2,532 mm, which is only 11 mm compared to the Argo, showing that it will actually have a smaller size than the competition. As a comparison, the Honda WR-V has 2,555 mm between the axles, while the VW Nivus measures 2,566 mm. The released images and the screenshots taken of the car in tests show that it will not have very long overhangs, so the SUV should be close to 4 meters in length.
This difference in size has a good reason, as the Fiat Pulse has to be positioned below the Jeep Renegade, which will fight in the slice above the compact SUVs, where it already has a good result and reputation. This will even be reflected in the prices charged for the Fiat model, which should cost between R$ 80 thousand and R$ 110 thousand (today the Renegade ranges from R$ 92,990 to R$ 129,490 in flex versions).
Fiat has already announced that it will have some equipment such as four airbags, a multimedia center with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and compatibility with the Fiat Connect Me application, allowing the car to start and the doors to lock on the smartphone. It will also bring 4G Wi-Fi connection in partnership with Tim, as it is in the renewed Toro or the Jeep Compass 2022 .
Another part that the manufacturer does not comment on is the engine, saying only that it will have a new turbo engine. We know it will be a three-cylinder 1.0, making its debut within Stellantis, delivering around 120 hp and 20 kgfm and working with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The other option should be the 1.3 aspirated 109 hp and 14.2 kgfm that already equips Argo and Cronos , with the 5-speed manual gearbox and the unprecedented automatic CVT type.
The official debut of the Fiat Pulse will take place in the coming months and we expect a pre-sale as the company has been doing with its latest releases. Sources linked to the brand said that the expected arrival at dealerships was between September and October, however we do not know how the lack of semiconductors in the industry can affect this schedule.
