CUP HOLDER INFO: Click more info.

Ok, so I had the idea before I even got the drum rocker to build a cup and stick holder so I could put my sticks somewhere easy to reach and out of the way when I wasn't playing. I also wanted an easy spot to put beverages during songs.

PARTS:

I got everything at home or Home Depot for less then $10.

A giant rubber band (some foam strips that you get with a window mounted air conditioner might work too)

A big plastic bag (I used one of the bags from the ION packaging)

3" x 2" PVC "Y" fitting. (You'll want to ask for a "Three by two inch PVC Y", any employee should know what to get you, you may also want to specify "Schedule 40", this is the heavy duty stuff I used.)

1-1/2" 45 or 135 degree elbow. ("Inch and a half forty-five degree PVC elbow")

And a piece of 1-1/2" PVC pipe. Most Home Depots have 2 foot pieces, but it also comes in 10 foot lengths for pretty cheap. Make sure its all schedule 40 or Drainage Weight.

The paint I used if you couldn't see it in the video is called Hammered for Plastics by Rustoleum. Get the darkest black or gray they have. There's no pure black, but this dark gray color matches the kit very well.

PROCEDURE:

Cut a 1" piece off of the pipe for the mount.

Cut a piece for the stick holder with a straight cut on one end and a 45 degree cut on the other end. Cut it anywhere from 6 to 12 inches. I don't know what mine is, I just made up a length and cut it. Probably about 10 inches. (If you want the white top like mine, paint the pipe first, then cut it.)

You don't need to paint the elbow or the 1" piece for the mount, and it might be better if you don't.

You don't need to prime or prep the plastic if you buy the right paint. They suggest wiping it down with paint thinner first, but I didn't do it and its hold up just fine.

Paint the "Y" and the straight pipe. You'll want to do very light, even coats. Don't try to cover the whole thing in one coat. The hammered effect will develop on its own. The first few coats will have little white dots. These get covered by subsequent coats of paint. I did about 10 or 12 quick coats about a minute apart. There's probably other videos on youtube to show you how to spray paint and get good results.

Let the paint dry for a few hours, maybe 4 hours on a dry warm day. Longer if its humid or cold. Hold the elbow fitting inside the bottom of the "Y" and slide the straight cut end of the pipe into the small arm of the "Y" and line them up and jam them together (the elbow and the pipe) while they are inside the "Y"

You may have to lower the cross bars on the ION frame to get a little stub of the leg to stick out the top.

Wrap the rubber band around the stub and twist on the little 1" piece of pipe over the rubber band and slide it down as far as you can. Make sure its tight. You don't want you're drink spilling mid song.

Slide the assembled "Y" onto the mount by lining up the elbow to the mount.

Roll up the plastic bag and fold it over a few times to make a "C" shape and slide this around the back of the elbow from the top of the "Y" to make a somewhat level surface for your drink. It also gives it a little suspension if you rock out too hard.

Enjoy.
