In Epoch you choose a class, a haircut, and then wake up in a dungeon (as one does in Dark Souls and Metoidvania games all the time). You then have to explore and figure out not only how to escape the first dungeon, but to beat the evil boss who has killed every other person inside it with you!
If you die,m you get the classic Dark Souls "YOU DIED" across the screen, and can then make your way back to the spot and regain your stuff.
Epoch has the feelings of a Metroidvania based on the map progression, and items, but also feels like a Zelda from the combat and puzzles, and finally, feels like a Souls-Like based on the brutal enemy attacks and equipment system.
The only thing hampering the game that I saw was the bizaree control scheme, keyboard and mouse, but with a lot of different keys and combinations you have to hit in order to do attacks and combat moves. Epoch might need an update for controller support to truly feel great.
