Booming Blade Secretly Grants HP
First up is a secret interaction with Vivacious Cloak - this cloak grants 8 temporary hit points when you cast a spell in melee range. However, this cloak grants the 8 hit points even when using cantrips in melee range, and since patch 8 introduced a new melee cantrip - booming blade - this cloak will give 8 temporary hit points when using it! Booming Blade is amazing and can be chosen as a high elf cantrip during character creation making it easily obtainable too. The downside to the High Elf cantrip is that it uses your INT mod, but Booming Blade doesn't use a spellcasting mod, so Non-INT classes can take it and not have to worry about DC or accuracy.
Surprisingly though - even if you don’t use Booming Blade for the temporary HP, you can still get the 8 temporary hitpoints each turn pretty easily - casting Beckoning Darkness from Dark Justiciar Gauntlets also grants the 8 bonus hitpoints, along with Shar’s Darkness from Shar’s Spear of Evening and Sorrowful Lash from Sorrow.
And to get The Vivacious Cloak all you need to do is loot it from a locked traveller’s chest in the south-east corner of the Grand Mausoleum.
Against All Odds
And next up - did you know if you succeed the DC 99 check against the netherbrain to dominate it, it actually does something? If you succeed the roll, later when you finally face the netherbrain, it will have a condition called Against All Odds. This condition reads: “The unlikely actions of the party in the morphic pool were a surprise to even the netherbrain. The successful roll has left the netherbrain wounded, reducing its starting HP for the encounter. The exact HP reduction is 20% of the brain’s total HP - reducing it from 300 to 240, or from 450 to 360 if you’re playing on tactician difficulty.
Easy way to complete Shar’s Faith Leap Trial
And next up is an easier way to complete Shar’s Faith Leap Trial! One of the easiest methods that won’t ever get patched is to drink a potion of flying - this allows you to easily fly from platform to platform eventually reaching the end of the trial without any risk of dying. If you’ve ever tried to do this with a potion of glorious vaulting, you know that jumping can lead to dying, even if you never are touching the shadow platforms. You can purchase a potion of flying from Talli in last light inn, or you can find a scroll of flying, or even learn the spell as a level 5 Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard, or Circle of the Land (Mountain) Druid.
Lupperdiddle Swires, the NPC Most Players Miss
And next up is Lupperdiddle Swires, the NPC Most Players Miss!
Lupperdiddle Swires is a Gnomish Adventurer, who we can learn about from a number of different items’ flavor text! Items such as Potion of Glorious Vaulting, Arsonist’s Oil, Swiresy Shoes, Shield of Returning, Swires’ Sledboard and a note called Brave, the note can be found near where the absolute convoy is waiting, inside a burlap sack within a ruined tower. On the Potion of Glorious Vaulting we can read, “Lupperdiddle Swires, Gnomish Adventurer, could reportedly jump twenty feet in the air. He was about the size of a bantam hen. On the Swiresy Shoes it reads, “Likely fashioned in tribute to the extremely small, high-vaulting rascal who pillaged many a hen house - Lupperdiddle Swires. And on Swire’s Sledboard, “A gnomish adventurer once used this to outpace his enemies down a slope. And on the arsonist’s oil: “It was then that Swires tossed the oil. It splattered the cambion, and all at once its skin of brilliant carmine dulled to dark, a red like cheap wine, and the fiend vented this sound of anguish I almost pitied, for its very affinity for fire was now undone. And last, written upon the note titled Brave it reads...
