New Super Mario Bros. Wii Part 1 - Happy Beginnings (RG134a)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the second game in the series of Nintendo's most milkable franchise. It takes many of the aspects that were introduced in the original New Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo DS and improves on some of them, while downgrading others.
The artistic style is exactly the same as that as was created in the original game, although everything has been upgraded to look much nicer on the Wii. Unfortunately I look at the music as more of a downgrade rather than an upgrade, as I thought it was nicer on the Nintendo DS without all of the techno sounds that have for some reason been added in here to make it seem "different". The Ghost Houses in this game do use the ghost music from Super Mario Galaxy though, which is awesome since I would consider that one of the best music tracks in Super Mario history.
The level design in this game isn't terrible, although there are some parts that seem a little bit bland. I've never liked how Yoshi was supposed to be such a prominent feature of this game, and yet he only appears in a few levels and cannot be taken to the overworld map. I never understood that decision, why couldn't they have made Yoshi compatible with all of the levels? The overworld map is also set up almost exactly the same as those from the original game, and it wouldn't be until New Super Mario Bros. U until the finally changed that and made it one giant interconnected thing like Super Mario World.
Overall NSMB Wii isn't a bad game, although with New Super Mario Bros. U out now I would definitely recommend getting that instead, as the levels in it are much better and it truly looks awesome in HD. There is also New Super Mario Bros. 2, which I would recommend if you are looking for some Super Mario Bros. platforming action on the go.
