How do you save a billion dollar franchise? If you answered, save your money and do something new, you already made a billion dollars, you’re wrong! The creators behind the next installment in the Terminator series, Terminator Genisys, are revealing part of their gameplan and some new plot details about part 1 of a new trilogy. We recently told you original Terminator writer/director James Cameron revealed that star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s aged appearance in the film is thanks to his T-800 because he missed his target and spent decades assimilated into the human world - sort of like a sleeper cell, but a sleeper Austrian bodybuilding robot. Well, thanks to a new EW cover story, we’re getting even more details on Arnold’s role and a lot more! The film will begin in the year 2029 with John Connor, now played by Jason Clarke, fighting the good fight against the evil Skynet and its minions alongside his homeboy, Kyle Reese, portrayed by Divergent’s Jai Courtney. Connor then decides to send Reese back to 1984 to protect his mother, Sarah, from one of Skynet’s Terminators sent to kill her. Sound familiar? It’s the beginning of the very first film and the basis for the others, but the first difference here that the magazine reveals is that Connor wants Reese to prevent him from ever being born to begin with. The questions keep coming from there when EW reveals the first major plot detail that outlines Arnold’s involvement. When Reese travels back to 1984, instead of finding Linda Hamilton looking super 80’s, he finds Emilia Clarke, probably also looking super 80’s, but this time, Sarah isn’t alone…She’s been raised since the age of 9 by an older T-800 she calls “pops,” played by, you guessed it, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Kyle finds that other Terminators orphaned Sarah at a young age, whom we can only assume Sarah has been eluding since, or “pops” has been aiding her. Being raised by an emotionless robot has its advantages and disadvantages though – sure she’s alive and protected, but she’s a cold, calculated, anti-social recluse who’s supposed to birth the leader of the human race. And how’d “Pops” get there to begin with? What was his original mission? We’ll have to wait and find out if those questions are answered when Terminator: Genysis arrives in theaters on July 1st, 2015. In the meantime, click here to check out our list of the 11 best non-human movie heroes. Which may just include a certain buff cyborg. But first, what do you think of the new plot details? Do you like the idea of Schwarzenegger playing an aged Terminator who raises Sarah? Share your thoughts in the comments or tweet us @ClevverMovies.
